Company History

Chelsea Garden Furniture was started in 2008 by company owner Richard Prior.

Richard left school early and at 15 went to work for his Farther in his business. After gaining knowledge from working with his farther he started a home furniture business with his younger brothers. A few years into the business Richard decided to go it alone, keeping with furniture but that of the outdoor type Chelsea Garden Furniture was born. With little money but a vision, great knowledge and passion for quality furniture he began to sell on markets and at small local garden shows and soon picked up a reputation for quality garden furniture with competitive prices.

By early 2009 the success of the business was climbing quickly, a larger range of products were introduced to offer customers more choice. 2009 was also a landmark year for the business as a big investment went into an e-commerce website allowing customers to order online 24 hours a day 7 days a week from all over the country. It was a move that would take Chelsea Garden Furniture from strength to strength. Richard explains,

“At the time it was a big deal. I was getting quotes for an e-commerce website for between £8,500- £35,000 I thought, is this the right move to make as it was a lot of money for a website if it fails. I managed to find a company that I thought was right for me and took the gamble. At first I thought I had made a mistake as it was months before the first order came in but they have not stopped since and it was the defining moment for me and the business”

Other moments of 2009, Chelsea Garden Furniture donated furniture for Channel 4 "The Home Show" for a special charity episode,

We moved into a new warehouse unit to hold more stock, rebranded company logo and gained the slogan "Make The Most of your Garden".
By the end of 2009 Richard had firmly established the business as one of the leading retailers of high quality garden furniture. Throughout 2010 the business grew and the website got a complete new look making it a better experience for the customer.

Chelsea Garden furniture has now gained a reputation for high quality garden furniture with a service to match and is looking forward to a bigger and brighter future.
